New Online Store
After two days of selecting and photographing artwork from my art drawers I’ve now compiled a collection of art available for purchase.
But, because I want more control over the appearance of my art store I’ve moved away from Etsy and set up a brand new shop at Square. Yes, it meant hours of learning new features, setting up new profiles and pulling my hair out, BUT, the finished result better fits my main website and I’m super pleased with the overall appearance. Happy days!
The art is a combination of personal projects, disused art from my books (more to come soon), and art from magazine commissions. Some of the art pieces I’d never intended to sell, before I realised that being stored away and never being displayed is just a little sad. I’d much rather they were on someone’s wall than in my art drawer.

Original Art Sale
Tomorrow, 5th April 2022 at 5pm Perth/AWST time (GMT+8) I’ll be releasing several original watercolour illustrations on my Etsy page.
I only release a few originals during the year and I’m excited to share these new artworks made over the last couple of months. Each one has its only story for why it was created; a possible picture book idea, experimenting with a new technique, trial for an illustration layout or just plain fun.

Book Birthday
It’s the book birthday of Ollie and Augustus.
This is the first picture book I’ve both written and illustrated. Thanks to my fantastic editor, Nancy, and the creative Walker Books Australia team that got behind me in making this book.
And a special shout out to the two dogs that inspired Augustus – Lacie and Bry.
Ollie and Augustus is already popping up in bookshops around Australia and online including Dymocks.
Two book launches will kick off in NSW at Berkelouw Books Leichhardt and The Children’s Bookshop, Beecroft, followed by at least two in WA at Paper Bird Children’s Books and my hometown. More details on my events page. Join me in celebrating!
Proof Reading My New Picture Book
Today was all about reviewing the final proofs of Ollie and Augustus – my latest picture book I’ve written and illustrated.
Exciting to see how this book has come together – thanks to the creative team at Walker Books.
The release date, September 2019, can’t come soon enough!

A watercolour and charcoal painting developed using rapid, energy induced strokes. Sometimes, after a focusing on an illustration project, I need to step away and paint for the pure joy of creating.

Ollie and Augustus – Finished Art for my 2019 Picture Book
Today I finished the art for Augustus and Ollie, my new picture book with Walker Books Australia.
So excited for this book – featuring Ollie and his best friend (and dog) Augustus.
The idea was first conceived in 2014 over a tea (or was it a coffee? Definitely a hot beverage) with a sketch of a large dog and small boy. Fast forward four years and this sketch has become my 25th illustrated book and the first picture book I’ve both written and illustrated for Walker Books.
Released Australia wide in early 2019.

Quokka Selfie and Escape from the Studio
A quokka selfie was among the highlights during a brief holiday from my studio.
Two weeks exploring Western Australian beaches and karri forests reminded me how lucky I am to live in this remote part of the world.
Refreshed and refocused I’m back in the studio finishing off my latest picture book with Walker Books.
I look forward to showing sneak peaks from this new book soon.
Windy Weather – Watercolour Sketch
Yes, I’m supposed to be 100% focused on my new picture book. But I couldn’t help procrastinating with this watercolour and pencil sketch of a little girl being blown away by the wind.
Okay, play time over, back to work (proceeds to kitchen to make a coffee).
Rooster Crowing – Watercolour Illustration
Creating a chicken illustration is always fun – they have such personalities! This extract, from a larger painting, is of a bantam rooster crowing… Very similar to how I looked today coming up with a new picture book idea!
