Hello, my name is Gabriel Evans and I’m an Australian children’s book author and illustrator from Western Australia (WA).
With a coffee in hand, I spend my day drawing, painting and making picture books.
Working in watercolour and pencil I’ve made books that have sold internationally and have been translated into seven languages.
Welcome and enjoy browsing my books, illustrations and sketches – ideally with your own coffee in hand.
A Human for Kingsley
Kingsley had decided to own a human. This was not a decision to be taken lightly. After all, owning a human is a responsibility. This is my fourth picture book I’ve both written and illustrated. Released May 2021 with Hardie Grant.
Norton and the Bear
Is imitation the sincerest form of flattery? Or is it just annoying? Follow Norton as he attempts to avoid a bear who starts copying his appearance.
Norton and the Bear is a shortlisted book in the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Picture Book of the Year 2021.
A picture book about self esteem, resilience and the discovery that being different can be something wonderful.
This is my first collaboration with award-winning author Sonya Hartnett. Released March 2021 with Penguin Australia.
Pippi loves her special Little One. But one day, she goes missing. Pippi feels lost too, but perhaps she can learn to wonder at the world without Little One by her side.
My first picture book collaboration with award winning author, Jane Godwin.
The Cute Penguin
The penguin doesn’t just want to be cute – he wants to look like a REAL penguin. But is there anything a drawing can do to change what they are?
My second picture book I’ve written and illustrated is with Hardie Grant Egmont.
Ollie and Augustus
Ollie and his best friend and dog, Augustus, do everything together. First-day-of-school worries take on a new weight when Ollie’s enormous friend must stay at home. Will he be lonely? What will he do?
The Candlewick edition of my picture book is out now in the USA.
